Picking a new pair of running shoes can be such a chore! There are so many models, makes and even years that it can be worse and more stressful than buying a car! (You don't have to worry about a car giving you blisters at mile 7!) Every one has their preferred brand but like jeans, the styles and features change with every new model. Make sure you know what features you NEED to get the job done, whether you are running, hiking, walking or lifting. Comfort, stability, arch support, cushioning, durability and appearance all have a place on my list!
Each shoe touts special powers but do they really deliver? A few years ago, my husband and I ran a marathon and went through several pairs of shoes. Of all the shoes we sampled, we had the best result with the Asics Gel-Nimbus. The Gel-Nimbus 12 seems to be another great shoe for both men and women.
The Asics Gel-Nimbus 12 was reviewed in Runner's World in May 2010 and given the Best Update award for its cushioning and "offset lacing pattern". I will say that when I had a similar model of these, I changed them out before I really felt that they were "done". The shoes stayed durable and looked great through hundreds of miles. I even still use some for hiking when it's muddy and, of course, yard work. I never got a blister from these Asics and I think that really speaks for the shoe's comfort. According to other reviews online and also the retailer, Eastbay, these shoes are true to size and ideal for those with a normal to high arch. These shoes are definitely great for anyone that needs added stability.
Another great feature in these recent updates features gender-specific engineering to make the shoes more comfortable for both men and women. This shows a great deal of attention to feedback, especially from the Gel-Nimbus 11, and detail which will only benefit the runners in the long run.
The only issue I ever had with these Asics was that the top was not always comfortable when worn for very long runs. It wasn't anything that couldn't be fixed with comfy socks but it seems that this is another update that has been made in these shoes. According to RunningShoesGuru, these shoes are also great for runners whose form deteriorates over increased mileage because of the added stability and cushioning.
Overall, the consensus seems to be that these shoes are great for men and women and are a value for the money.
